Emmy Awards 2026: Apple TV just landed a record 89 nominations [Full list]

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has officially announced the contenders for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, and Apple TV has once again shattered its own record with an astonishing 89 nominations across all major categories. This impressive haul marks a significant leap from last year's 81 nominations, which resulted in 25 wins for the streaming service. The record-breaking performance underscores Apple TV's growing influence in the television landscape, as it continues to invest heavily in premium original content.

Apple TV's nominations span a diverse range of genres, from drama and comedy to limited series and documentary. Leading the pack are several new and returning series that have captured critical acclaim and audience attention. Among the standout shows, the drama series Pluribus — a political thriller starring Rhea Seehorn — earned multiple nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actress, and Supporting Actress. Similarly, the spy thriller Slow Horses continued its strong awards-season momentum with nods for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor (Gary Oldman), and Supporting Actor (Jack Lowden).

On the comedy side, Apple TV landed three major series in the Outstanding Comedy Series category: Shrinking, Margo's Got Money Troubles, and Murderbot. Shrinking in particular received numerous nominations, including Lead Actor (Jason Segel), Supporting Actor (Harrison Ford, Michael Urie), and Guest Actor (Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein). Michael J. Fox's nomination for his guest appearance in Shrinking is a highlight, marking a return to Emmy recognition for the beloved actor.

Another Apple TV standout is the new comedy Widow's Bay, which received the most nominations of any new series this year. It earned slots in Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor (Matthew Rhys), Supporting Actress (Dale Dickey, Kate O'Flynn), and multiple technical categories. The show's creative team also landed directing and writing nominations, cementing its status as a breakout hit.

Key Drama Categories

In the drama categories, Apple TV's Pluribus is a frontrunner, competing against heavyweights like The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, and Paradise. The actor Rhea Seehorn is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress, while Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vesga received supporting nods. Slow Horses also stands tall with Gary Oldman's lead actor nomination and Jack Lowden's supporting nod, alongside a directing nomination for the series.

Apple TV's drama series Your Friends and Neighbors also made the Outstanding Drama Series list, reflecting the platform's depth in serialized storytelling. Other Apple TV drama categories include casting, production design, cinematography, and sound mixing, all of which feature multiple Apple TV entries.

Comedy Series Dominance

The comedy categories are where Apple TV truly flexes its muscle. Shrinking alone accounts for eight nominations, including three supporting actors — a rare feat. Margo's Got Money Troubles earned Elle Fanning a Lead Actress nomination and Michelle Pfeiffer a Supporting Actress nod. The sci-fi comedy Murderbot also cracked the top series race, along with a nomination for Outstanding Title Design.

Widow's Bay is the dark horse of the season, with Matthew Rhys leading a strong comedic ensemble. The show's writing, directing, and technical achievements also earned recognition, making it a potential multi-award winner on the night.

Limited Series and Movies

While Apple TV did not land any nominations in the Outstanding Limited Series category itself, it has a presence in the acting categories for other projects. However, Apple TV's documentary offerings shine: Mr. Scorsese earned nominations for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program. The travel series The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy also received a nod for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special.

In the variety and reality categories, Apple TV's The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny received multiple nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Lighting Design, and Outstanding Music Direction. Apple also landed two commercial nominations: A Critter Carol and I'm Not Remarkable.

Technical and Craft Nominations

Apple TV's nominations extend deep into the technical and craft categories. Shows like Palm Royale earned nods for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, Outstanding Period Costumes, and Outstanding Hairstyling. Foundation and Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age both received nominations for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, while Monarch: Legacy of Monsters also made the visual effects list.

Editing categories feature Apple TV prominently: Pluribus for drama editing, Widow's Bay for single-camera comedy editing, and Mr. Scorsese for nonfiction editing. Sound mixing and editing nominations also went to Pluribus, Shrinking, Widow's Bay, and Murderbot.

Guest and Voice-Over Categories

Apple TV dominated the guest actor categories. In comedy, Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein from Shrinking are both nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor, along with Hamish Linklater from Widow's Bay. In drama, Jeff Hiller from Pluribus and Jonathan Pryce from Slow Horses received guest actor nods. On the guest actress side, Betty Gilpin from Widow's Bay and Miriam Shor from Pluribus are nominated.

In the Outstanding Narrator category, David Attenborough's work on Ocean With David Attenborough (an Apple TV+ title) earned a nomination, alongside other notable figures. The Outstanding Character Voice-Over category did not feature Apple TV shows this year, but the platform continues to expand its animated slate.

Historical Context and Industry Impact

Apple TV's 89 nominations represent a 10% increase over its previous record of 81 nominations in 2025. This steady growth reflects the streaming service's strategy of focusing on high-quality, star-driven projects rather than volume. In just a few years, Apple TV has gone from a newcomer to a perennial Emmy contender, challenging established players like Netflix, HBO, and Hulu.

Industry analysts note that Apple TV's success is partly due to its willingness to give creative freedom to top-tier talent. Shows like Shrinking from Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel, and Pluribus from acclaimed creator showrunners, have resonated with both critics and audiences. The platform has also invested heavily in diverse genres, from sci-fi to period dramas, ensuring a broad awards footprint.

Last year's 25 wins — led by The Studio with 13 awards — set a high bar, and while replicating that win count may be challenging, the sheer number of nominations gives Apple TV a strong chance to take home multiple trophies in September. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, hosted by Mariska Hargitay.
